Medicinal Uses Of Mistletoe

People have always been looking for cures for the problems they had. In almost all ancient cultures, medicinal herbs have had an important role, either in a medical or in another sense.

Throughout the course of human history, the knowledge of medicinal plants and their applications, expanded over time, so that today, there is already a significant collection of useful information related to the treatment of various diseases and conditions by using medicinal herbs. Related to many natural herbal remedies, scientific research has been made, and with the help of these studies, the effectiveness in terms of biological activity of many medicinal herbs has also been scientifically verified and proven. Unfortunately, natural herbal remedies can not always compete in all segments with the artificial products of the pharmaceutical industry, but in many ways they have proven to be helpful, and in certain situations, they represent a much cheaper and usually healthier alternative.

One of the most often used, and most well known medicinal herbs is common mistletoe (Viscum album). This is a well known bicameral and evergreen medicinal herb that grows on deciduous trees, and can therefore be easily recognized, especially during fall and winter. One of the best known properties of mistletoe is its ability to reduce blood pressure. It is also often taken together with hawthorn in various herbal mixtures in order to strengthen the heart, especially in older people. There have also been claims that mistletoe can help treat certain cancer types, although these claims still await further scientific research.

There are also many more properties that medicinal herbs like this one have, but all the information that would be necessary to mention to describe this plant fully, probably wouldn’t fit in one article. Fortunately, there are also many other web sites online which describe the medicinal applications of mistletoe in more detail, like plantsmedicinal.com, where one can also find many other interesting information.
