Extreme body modification: An introduction to branding

In the BDSM community, branding is not a part of play and should be taken seriously and done in the proper practice under safe and sterile circumstances. However how does that fall into the realm of what is know to mainstream society? For some people being branded is a cultural thing, fo laser hair removal dangersr others it’s a right of passage, or maybe it’s strictly about the pain. In criminal law branding was used as punishment and public humiliation as well.

Since this topic is about the extreme body modification known as branding I will stay on that subject. Branding isn’t something new it’s origins date much further back then most people think. Usually in a spot that would generally be seen, otherwise what would be the point?BDSM has also been known to utilize branding as the ultimate act of sacrifice and commitment to the relationship. Branding and getting burned hurts period. Everyone has their own reasons for getting branded and that brings forth the age-old adage: “thou shall not be judged, least they be judged” Branding is technically a form of scarification since the end result is indeed a scar.

The brand will most likely mark the “slave” for a lifetime and is usually placed in a more intimate area such as the upper thigh, below the navel or above your genitals. Colonial slavers branded millions of people during the period of the trans-Atlantic enslavement Maafa, marking their territory if you will. People will argue how can you do this to yourself when branding hurts? The pain is intense but for some people they need that pain, similar to getting a tattoo only a different sensation of sorts. For some people branding is an intense desire indicting the up most in total commitment to that individual.

Scarification is operated through a literal controlled . Branding is generally done through the application of heated material, generally metal to the skin, leaving you with a serious burn that eventually becomes a scar. In ideal terms a brand looks like a pattern of sorts with noticeable raised lines in your skin. What better way to make someone suffer for a crime then to not only scars him or her for life but to humiliate him or her in front of a crowd as well? Of course depending on the nature of the crime was Dependant upon how you were branded and where. Long ago it was used to mark slaves who were treated as nothing more then livestock as part of their de-humanizing treatment.
